The Foundation of the Museum

As the founder and permanent sponsor of the National Museum, A. Sheptytsky not only financed the formation of the collection, but also oversaw the day-to-day functioning of the museum and its publishing program.
In his anniversary collection for the 25th anniversary of the museum, I. Sventsitsky, director of the museum, presented statistics about its financial condition and noted the Metropolitan’s contribution as the founder-"originator."
According to his calculations based on the 1904-1926 period, Sheptytsky spent more than $111,000 US dollars on the National Museum during that time.
